Creating a Blog Post
When you log into Blogger, you’ll see your dashboard where you can access all the blogs you post to (you’ll notice in the picture below that I have three blogs on my dashboard that I post to). Please note: in order to post to The Belcher Legacy, you need to have accepted in invitation to the blog that you receive in your e-mail. Only the site administrator can grant these permissions and send out e-invites, so if you need an invite, let Julie Groff know! We want everyone to post!
Click New Post on the blog you want to post to.
Title your post and type your message. Notice at the top of the posting box are editing tools that are similar to what is available in any word document, so you can change the font, add bullets, check spelling, etc.
To add a picture, click on the icon of a scenic picture (it’s the third icon from the right, just after the spell check icon). When you click that icon, you’ll see this box pop up. Click Browse and find the image file on your computer that you want to upload, then click OK. Or you can type in a URL to post an image from a website. Choose if you want your image on left, centered, or on the right, and select the size of the image, then click Upload. Your image will appear at the top of the post.
To add a video, it’s really similar to adding a picture. Click on the icon that is second from the right. Browse for the video, title it, agree to the terms and click Upload.
On a side note, if you ever need to go into the HTML code of the message, click on tab at the top of the post box that says Edit HTML. Sometimes if you create things like slideshows on another site like Picasa or Photobucket, you’ll need to post HTML code and that is where you do it.
When you are done with your post, click Publish Post. Now you’re done! You can make any changes by editing the post.
Posting Comments
Awhile ago, Julie Groff posted instructions on her blog on how to leave a comment. She explained it so nicely that I’ll copy her instructions here.
At the end of a post, there is a little link that says comments. If you click on that link, a window will pop-up where you can type in your comment. This is where some people are having trouble. The simplest way is if you have a Google account. If you have g-mail (or have an account on Blogger, Picasa, or YouTube) then you already have one. If not, it's simple to get a Google account, just go to this link: https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount. You can use any email address that you already have, it doesn't have to be g-mail. If you want a g-mail account, then go here: https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount?service=mail&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fmail.google.com%2Fmail%2Fe-11-10eb23856b16bd30fd87e8f7f5084b47-eb5c8bfc3fce60870465e83a2e2750e551e591d4&type=2.
Okay, now that you have Google account, you can leave a message for me. 1. Type your message in the pop-up window that I talked about before. 2. Then below that is the word verification that you must do to make sure that you are not a spammer. Below that is where you will log-in with your newly acquired Google account. 3. Under the Choose an Identity section, you will click the circle that says Google/Blogger. Then type in your username & password, and click Publish Post.
Don't want a Google account? I personally don't know why you wouldn't want one, but if you don't, then follow steps 1 &2 above, and for step 3. Choose: Name/URL. Then just type your name in the Name box. Then click publish post.
Lastly, if you really want to drive me nuts, you can post comments anonymously. To do this, follow steps 1 & 2. For step 3 Choose: Anonymous, and then click Publish Post.
Now you all know everything! Get posting!
